Interview with John Willetts - President, Claireville Environmental Group:

I first met Susan when she was a City Councilor.

She had heard that I was leading the Friends of Claireville, a community group whose mandate is the restoration and protection of Claireville Conservation Area. At that time, we were in active opposition of efforts to develop Claireville from public conservation lands into a golf course. With Susan’s support, we were able to stop the golf course proposal.

Along with her assistance in helping us in the golf course stoppage, she has been a regular supporter of the community tree plantings that we have twice a year. To date, she has participated alongside the community that has planted over 23,000 trees in Claireville.

I am particularly proud of her support opposing development of a road that would have bisected the conservation lands, which would have caused significant impact to one of the few remaining naturalized areas in the GTA. The values of places like the Claireville Conservation Area do not show up in a balance sheet, but are irreplaceable and central to our well being.

As President of the Claireville Environmental Group, I am delighted to work with Susan on complicated issues that impact the quality of our environment and quality of our lives.

Susan is a Mayor that will return a call or email and is someone you can talk to. That is a rarity and a tremendous commodity. I feel as an individual and as an active group member that I have an opportunity to be heard and to contribute to our community in a constructive manner working alongside our Mayor.

Susan has a clear understanding of strong community values. Public transit, local employment, local parks for family’s, their neighbors and visitors to enjoy outdoor recreation is important and leaving natural green spaces alone to ensure our health and well being helps in me in wanting to support her.

As a husband, a father, a business person and as an active member of our community, I am delighted to have this opportunity to support Susan, as our Mayor.
